So what's the deal with those crowns - FF 4 Heroes of Light is interesting so far

So um, I'm playing Final Fantasy the Four Heroes of Light, and it reminds me of how I fared with the FF3 remake: I'm currently in Guera, which proved to be tricky going from the hometown of Horne. See, Horne has been hit by a weird petrification spell, so your main character (default name: Brandt) has to go off to figure out a cure by finding a desert town called Guera. Also going to each house in the petrified town is pretty haunting, specially when you go to your own house and your mom's turned to stone as well. After finding a random Moon-folk in the desert (Hint: start running around at night - apparently he camps out!) you go to the obvious tower and find something called Merkmal. Then you can find Guera somewhere in the middle of the map where it wasn't before.

So before they can help you with your petrified hometown (because of course, this is a JRPG, we never do anything out of the goodness of our hearts!), the king asks you to defeat the Sand Devil trapping the town to be invisible to most people. There's a catch though : you need water spells to defeat this boss. >_> Now the kicker is: the king just confiscated all of the water tomes. :| He could've at least thrown us a bone - or in this case, a tome! - to try to save time. After visiting the aptly named Quicksand Castle and finding no treasure box with a water tome, I went back to Guera scratching my head. I thought, there had to be SOME way I could get a water tome in town, right? I went running around looking at the urns and pots, then went back to the castle where the King had retired for the night. On my second run around his castle, I realized that the guards blocking the way to the basement were gone, even when they told me earlier that no one could go in there because it had all their magicky things! It seemed counter-intuitive to have guards not guard such an important location 24-7, but at least I got a Water Tome from a treasure chest. >_> I'm going back to Quicksand Castle as soon as I stop headdesking.

Thoughts on the game so far: Interesting Graphics - as you walk farther away from a location you can see it fade a bit into the horizon, and when you put on items you actually see it affect what your sprite looks like. The limited item slot idea is similar to FF4, except you're limited to 15 items per character, including your equip and spells. Crown system - I've only gotten one crown (Wayfarer) but that character immediately left my party due to a plot point, so I have no idea how the system works. With the base character job set you are immediately warped back to your last save point if your party dies in battle, without losing acquired items and gems, which is good at this point in the game. I usually have the music off while playing, so no opinions there. The battle system doesn't let you choose your target, but does automatically aim for the weakest enemy during a fight. I end up keeping track if the Action Points a lot during a battle, because if the characters all run out of points at the same time, you'd miss a turn just Boosting the numbers back up.

Whoo, that was a rather long ramble. I've been lazy in the pic sorting category, so I still have pictures from last week I haven't resized and fixed, and then I have pictures from this weekend from AD-kun's Nihongo Center Open House and PJ's birthday. ^^; Meep meep! Also, as per my wallpaper calendar I have been making postcards while at work. It keeps me awake somehow. :D
