blue_cage: (nothing is sacred)

It's already the 6th and I haven't done my shopping yet.

I saw AD-kun on my way home. Lucky the train wasn't full, so I got to sit right beside her and talk sewing. I swear, once I figure out when I can go to divisoria I will so text you; I NEED a white feather boa for my project! The white fluffy things I got are not fluffy enough!

Answering [livejournal.com profile] lucathia_rykatu's questions.

The meme!

I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1. What do you like to draw the most?
*looks into sketchbooks* Faces of boys with a VK or Jpop feel to them. This amuses me because I definitely remember being more of a girl-only artist, way, way back in high school. I guess the BL is catching up to me. >_> Faces are the easiest to draw, with hands being the hardest. One thing that people might notice is I often draw in three-quarters or in profile, rarely full frontal. That's because I can't draw symmetrically to save my life.

2. How did you get into Hetalia?
I've always loved history. Some of my highest marks involved history in some shape or form, because there's just something dramatic and romantic about the past, right? Sometime last year, someone in my f-list--who will remain nameless--mentioned that there was a fandom for countries. I've actually heard of it in passing on some posts, and then was introduced to the crazy, craaaaazy world of the main hetalia comm. This was actually just prior to the flood of pairing and icons, so I got to enjoy going through the canon befor the insanity began.

And then I found out about Austria's character, and his glasses and the backstory was a surefire way to get me into the fandom. To be honest, there's been precedents to the crazy love I have for Hetalia - see fangirling over Rizal's novels and plans to ship National Heroes. Nothing is sacred to fangirls. Nothing. ^_^v

3. What is your oldest fandom? Are you still part of it now?

My oldest fandom - oh dear. Hrm, to be honest, it's a bit muddled in my head. The oldest fandom I remember fangirling about with other people would be YYH, way back in the days when it was being shown for the first time around 1995-1996. We had discussions about characterization and such, but I never did draw or write anything for it. You could set a watch on kids back then - they would be glued to the tv by 6pm every weekend for Sailor Moon, or the sentai of the month like Masked Rider Black or Maskman and Daimos and Voltes 5 every Sunday morning.
My very first Mary Sue was a copycat story of Frances Hodgson Burnett's Little Princess crossed with Little Women, which I did at around that same time. It was the first time I dabbled in a bookish fandom, though I think my mom finally burned the art and handwritten pages. All sagging breasts and pointy noses, since I had no sense of proportion at the time.

The FIRST fandom I ever wrote for was a little thing called Zenki, because my best friend [livejournal.com profile] mierin_lanfear wrote fanfic for it and I added my own original characters for her story. This was around first to second year high school, because I distinctly remember writing birthday fic for her during the enrollment period on Paddington Stationery. Something about a love potion mixing up the couples in our fanon. This was before the internet was really common, so the only way you can share stories would be to write it out, or if you had your own computer, to type it out and print it while your parents weren't looking and photocopy like mad. We wrote self-insert fics, then moved to pairing fics once we discovered the wonders of a YYH fanfic called The Arbor. I still have my photocopy of that fic, btw *wink wink, nudge nudge to the local fen in the flist*

I was never really part of the YYH fandom nor of the Zenki fandom. I only discovered the bigger arena of fanfiction online in college, right after people started linking to HP fanfics. I would STILL draw or write for them if every anyone requested, but both canons ended over a decade ago, so requests are scarce. Very, very scarce.

TL;DR much?

4. What do you want the most at the moment?
Time, or a device to stop time and let me work on things. I've promised a lot of stuff to people that I haven't followed through yet, and I want to just have some time to sleep. Sleep and then forget about work, but that's what you're supposed to do during weekends, aight?

5. What do you think of, if anything, when you see the number 5?
Go and in turn, Hikaru no Go. It's ingrained to my very soul, I tell you!

Hats I have cut the base felt for a tiny white tricorne, and I'm currently doing calculations for a full-sized tricorne commission for a War of Succession Prussia outfit. The commission actually came out of the blue from the last time I wore the HRE outfit, where they asked if I knew where to find the hat, and I told them I made them myself. I did a practice tricorne that I brought during Ame Jidai, and it proved surprisingly photogenic. You can see more of it here. Come to think og it, you see more of my HUGE piyo-piyo in the album. He was popular to the point of being birdnapped a couple of times! Tiny white tricorne will serve as practice to see if I can use gold ribbon as bias for the edging, and I think I may decorate it with black lace and netting. ^^;

(un)Official schedule change Work on Christmas Eve and Dec 31, no work on Christmas and New Year. *cheers* I hope they don't change it all of a sudden. Half of the team DO have to go to work on New Year's, so they're planning pot luck or cake to cheer themselves up. Goodness, if they do change this last minute I'm going to cry, and throw a tantrum. Childish, I know. ^^; The schedule is from Sundays to Thursdays, 12am-9am.

Exchanges, and such I've missed commenting on 5 days on Snupin_santa, and let's not talk about my performance in another exchange I'm in. >_> My schedule is draining the life out of me, so that when I get home I would just have enough energy to eat, do a round of checks in the flists then nap till it's time to go to my next shift.

I would very much like to see you draw YYH! I got a sudden burst of love for it again when I rewatched some episodes to do screencaps.

If I had a time device, I would abuse it. Good thing I don't have one.

[identity profile] blue-cage.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
YYH never grows old. Well it does, animation-wise, but really, the storytelling's very good. I'd draw more YYH, if I can find good reference pics. The last one I did was a weird, smudgy Kurama.

Everyone would abuse time devices, I think. If only to sleep in.

I got into YYH much later than most people--I never really liked the show when it was running on TV, and only started watching it again after I realized many of my favorite authors had written for it...

Stopping time would be wonderful...

[identity profile] blue-cage.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it also depends on how YYH was served up? The first dubbed run shown locally was awesome even with Anglicized names (and all that ahahahaha, Kurama as a girl mistake) and it was a good break from all the shoujo on air.
